About Spartans Give

Please read the following guidelines before completing a project application.

What Is Spartans Give?
Spartans Give is UNCG's community fundraising program where people affiliated with UNCG can create digital fundraising projects that impact the UNCG community in a meaningful way.

It enables groups to seize the power of their own networks to fundraise through a professional, branded platform that engages audiences with specific UNCG initiatives. It creates opportunities for the Spartan community to support University efforts from students, faculty, parents, and staff.

How do I apply?

Spartans Give is divided into two main tiers: Crowdfunding and Micro Campaigns. The primary difference between the two is based on how much money you're trying to raise. Use the appropriate link below when you're ready to begin your application based on your total goal.

Have questions about which application is right for you? Reach out to Arjanai Miller, Assistant Director of Digital Philanthropy, at admille7@uncg.edu.

Please note that University Advancement and the Spartans Give Campus Council reserves the right of final approval over all projects, including which tier the project belongs in.

What Fundraising Platform Is Best To Use?
Schools, colleges, and units are highly encouraged to use the Spartans Give platform or UNCG’s online giving page (giveto.uncg.edu) for any online fundraising efforts.

Use of external platforms such as Facebook or GoFundMe is discouraged. Funds raised would be received directly by the requestor, creating personal income and the related tax liability. Additionally, donors would not be provided with the tax-deductible benefit of a gift to a charity. Finally, donations would be reduced by any fees charged by these platforms to facilitate the receipt of donations.

Project Administration
Spartans Give projects are subject to all University regulations and applicable state and federal laws. Projects utilizing Spartans Give must properly use UNC Greensboro’s name, following UNCG's brand guide, and logo, and ensure that such fundraising and related projects are consistent with the University’s mission and best interests, and are appropriately designed and presented to our community.

UNCG's Advancement Communications team, in conjunction with the Spartans Give Campus Council, will determine the eligibility of participating projects and reserves the right to decline any project based on content or discontinue an active fundraising project at any time due to changes in the group’s eligibility status or failure to comply with these guidelines.

Eligibility
Those who wish to fund a project through Spartans Give must be a part of the UNCG community in an official capacity. These categories include:

  • Academic partners
  • Student groups and organizations
  • Sports and academic teams
  • Faculty and staff
  • Parents

Funds
All Spartans Give projects must have an existing UNCG designation fund into which donations will be deposited. Groups may use a UNCG fund associated with a sponsoring unit, such as a college or department fund, with proper approval (Dean/Department). If an appropriate sponsoring fund is not available, the Office of Annual Giving will determine whether the project qualifies to establish its own fund designation.

Fund designations and accounts must be approved by the Office of Annual Giving before the project can begin fundraising. Projects without established and approved funds will not be accepted.

Gift Administration
Projects must support UNCG programs and initiatives. Funds cannot be redirected to a third party, external charity, or other non-profit organization. UNC Greensboro cannot act as a “pass-through” entity to provide funding to other charities (e.g. using Spartans Give to raise money for the Red Cross is not allowed).

All donations received for the project must be used for the project’s stated purpose. Individuals are strictly prohibited from keeping any portion of the funds raised as a profit or compensation. All projects must be non-profit in nature.

Why is alumni giving so important?

Gifts of any size made to UNCG have the power to change the lives of all Spartans. Gifts from alumni are especially powerful because they do something else: they raise our national profile. US News & World Report and other publications take alumni giving into consideration when ranking colleges and universities, so when an alumnus makes a gift, they are also helping to increase our national rankings. A higher ranking makes a UNCG degree even more valuable, encourages prospective students to apply to UNCG and benefits all members of our Spartan community.
